If you own the eyes, you own the World

WRITEntangled Note: I am on the mend from a heavy hit of the Flu.
I almost didn't have the strength to even get out of bed to turn on the computer.
Thankfully I feel about 80% strength to do this. I wanted to fire this one off quickly because its a powerful message.
Villains...
They're painted as the Bad Guys...
The Antagonists...
The ones that stand in the way of the Heroes...
And wants to watch the world burn.
And yet, the most profound backstories and knowledge comes from them.
This past weekend I had the pleasure of watching the remaining episodes of season 2 of Twisted Metal, a show based on a video game series I played as a kid and absolutely enjoyed (Mr. Grimm is the homie).
The opening scene of the final episode in the season caught my ear. Calypso aka Mr Sparks was pitching his concept for a new game show entitled Twisted Metal, but he was being snubbed by the executives at every corner. Backed into a corner, and with terrifying poise he said:
"Do you know why you can't look away from a car accident? Instinct. It triggers something in your brain. You have no choice but to look, to question your own mortality. That is what we will put on a screen. America won't look away. And if you own the eyes of America, then you own the world."
What makes this quote so impactful is the truth behind the words that many of us will brush by for the sake of entertainment. I was entertained yes, but I also want to dive into the truth behind the bars told by Calypso. Let's take this apart bit by bit!
Instincts, Triggers, and Morality
Its no secret that controversy sells. So does sex, violence, and everything in between. Look at the world we have today, especially in the instant gratification, AI and technology driven era. Everything that happens now, all of the major things that make the news are all tied to the most primal parts of who we are as human beings. We cheer and get fired up when people beat themselves to death for sport. We get pleasure out of paying for sex in person or through venues like Only Fans so we can get a nut off from a virtual partner that doesn't give a damn about anything but covering their own expenses. We go nuts for a bad-ass action sequence in a movie. Why? Because it calls out to the part of our humanity that we sweep under the rug...under all our conditioning...masks...and dogmas we've agreed to.
"I'm not like that" we tell ourselves.
And yet we fold again and again.
We blame demons and Satan for these poor lapses in judgement.
But did the demons make us who we are? Or are these key bits in our identity as human beings?
This is where the morality comes into play. Some of us struggle to accept that we have vices. That sometimes we let those vices get the best of us. We fight so hard to hide who we really are behind the titles, accolades, and appearances. But the more we resist, it persists (shout-out to Carl Jung). Rather than hide from it, we have to come to terms with it. Its not a curse or a demon, its a part of who we are at the molecular level. We humans are complex beings with the ability to think on the fly and decide for ourselves. However, there are still some primal pieces to who we are. We are drawn to what appeals to our primal wiring. Not just at the individual level, but also as a collective of people under one flag regardless of what which nation you align with.
We'll Put it on a Screen (and influence your Soul)
Many have said the eyes are the keys to someone's soul...and us wily human beings have devised a way to influence, engage, manipulate, and diminish someone's soul with constant exposure.
If you want someone to 'buy in' hit them with a bunch of ads and commercials. Let their favorite content creators flap their gums about the latest and greatest to pull you in. Let the algorithm gods suggest you products, services, and causes that 'best' align with you based on your search history.
Streaming services with instant access to videos, reels, shows to put us into a hypnosis of dopamine, or fires us up with anxiety driven news happenings such as President Trump authorizing missile strikes in Iran which shook the core of his own home country (cause lets be real, no one really wants the smoke). With that event alone, look how FAST we were hooked, glued, and reacted! What you see is what pulls you in. Its the sense at the forefront. If you can see a threat you're more likely to survive it. So this fact became the breadcrumb that TV networks, streamers and the like would utilize to pull people into their grasps, by way of their souls for engagement, and once we're hooked, its hard to break out of it.
Even governments have gotten hip to this. News networks are now across all social media networks. Even politicians take to X to spit their agendas and thoughts out to the people like they are hanging out with the boys or standing at the podium giving a speech...and we mindlessly eat it up, often time not even realizing we're even watching or scrolling. Crazy isn't it?
The point here, the more we scroll, like, comment, subscribe, watch, pray to the Algorithm Gods, the more we lose ourselves...our souls to those that see our consumption as capital while our souls are laid to rest.
If you own the eyes, you own the World
The last part of Calypso's quote carried the most weight.
Not to sound cocky or arrogant but America is seen as the standard of all things good, right, free, and just.
And yet, we are rotting from the inside, out.
The world is watching us. Simply because of our reputation to turn mud into gold...by way of strategic conquest...a giant game of chess...a War for False Peace that will never come.
Our hasty movements will force everyone else to become anxious and defensive.
We're so bored and yet want to flex our muscle against other nations...force them to pick sides in various conflicts...or else.
We'll tariff you
We'll not support you
We'll force an embargo
We'll shun you any which way we can.
Don't get me wrong. I have no ill will or animosity towards my birth nation.
I've served this nation proudly.
However, the atrocities we are poised to execute are diabolical...and the sad thing is...
all of it will be streamed, clipped, and televised.
The world will know of U.S. one way or the other.
The so called path to make us great huh?
Do the most off the wall things to garner attention to the same news networks you de-funded and declared fake.
You want all other nations to watch so they fear your might and power.
Your leadership and campaign is a direct reflection of who you are and what you didn't get.
And now we all get to see it, ready to scrap for turf.
What you think is a nation Unified is a nation divided.
Sadly, other nations have the same issues. People in power that shouldn't be, making decisions that shouldn't have been made. The expansion of global unrest is palpable as predictions of a third world war grow more everyday with the insatiable thirst for power and resources in a world designed as abundant.
The mass consciousness of humanity bombarded with fear, anxiety, and uncertainty...
and world leaders are proud of this? Do they not care so long as they get their cut and their investors are happy?
Does their Gods approve of their disregard for human life they seek to exterminate with their thirst that never ends?
Regardless...if it shows up as Breaking News flashing on our screens, we will look, stare, and feel the feels because its in our nature to be drawn to our default state: Primal. We may not agree with it, but we are naturally drawn to it.
The difference here is in the knowing. What we feed with our eyes will consume our souls, and those who seek to rule the world are exploiting us at every twist and turn.
You've been warned...
